David Jinda

Dave grew up most of his life in the Southern California area enjoying the casual and colorful
lifestyle it brings. His artistic talents started early, while in high school. He and one of his friends
being the entrepreneurial artists that they were, started a silk-screening business printing t-
shirts for schools and the California surf scene.
As his interest in art progressed, he moved on to creating and selling artistic rubber stamps.
Then he met and became partners with a man that was doing old fashioned plastering on the
Palos Verdes peninsula and his artistic talents were ignited and he became the artistic and
design talent behind La Ferla and Sons.
The artistic side of Dave was in full gear and his talents grew. The artistic work of the company
was sought after across Southern California for many years. You can still see his design work at
the show room the company created.
When Dave decided to retire it didn’t mean his need for a creative outlet was over and he
threw himself into wood working building doll houses and creative projects for his
grandchildren and furniture for his second home in Lake Arrowhead.
Then he was introduced to doing woodwork with a lathe and his creative juices were really
awakened again. It wasn’t enough to just do work on a lathe, but he saw the need for the
artistic side, like he used in the plastering artistry and started doing intricate, fine mosaics in
wood. Each piece became a new challenge, his collection grew, and people marveled at the
artistry he brought to each piece. Encouraged by his wife Margaret, he decided to become part
of the San Pedro Artists Association and display his pieces at Crafted.
Dave puts a bit of himself into each piece of art. He shares his style with others by displaying his
pieces and hopes they bring as much joy to others as they look at them, as they did for him,
creating them.
