I took my first ceramic class in 1991. I was pregnant with my first child. I have never stopped working with clay. All through raising a family and working full-time as a math teacher in middle school I continued to perfect my craft through classes and workshops. I consider myself a functional potter. Pottery is part of our everyday lives. I get pleasure in knowing that my work is going into ovens with delicious food. I like to think that my mugs add pleasure to a morning cup of coffee. I enjoy thinking of hot soup or cold cereal being spooned out of one of my bowls. I work with mid-fire to high-fire glazes on porcelain clay at temperatures ranging from 2100 to 2400 degrees. The glass quality of the glazes at these temperatures fascinates me. The challenge of throwing and hand building with porcelain keeps me engaged. The endless search for a simple functional elegant graceful form is my life's task.
